Some helpful advice
When it comes to attic cleaning, there is no problem too difficult for us to solve. If you need any advice on the matter, take a look at our tips here below.
Get rid of a dead animal stench in your attic
Avoid masking the stench by using air fresheners - mixing two smells will only make matters worse! Try putting a bowl of white vinegar - its disinfectant abilities will help eliminate some of the smell. Another way to neutralize the odor is to use coffee grounds instead of the vinegar. The best thing, however, is to remove the carcass and disinfect the whole area - and if you’re not up to the task, you can always call a professional!
Regular maintenance of the crawl space will improve your health and save you money
Too much moisture will lead to mold growth, and if left unattended, mold can damage building materials and cause serious damage to your home. Make sure your gutters direct water away from the house and install vents and water vapor barriers. Seal off any entry points insects and rodents may use and replace or install insulation. By insulating your crawl space, you’ll both improve the air quality in your home and lower your energy bills.
Choose the right kind of insulation
You are free to choose any kind of insulation as the additional layer to the existing one; meaning, you can put fiberglass over loose fill and vice versa. Whichever you choose, make sure it doesn’t have a vapor barrier (the facing), or you might end up having problems with rot or mold due to the moisture trapped in the insulation.
